Straight from the horse’s mouth: The Knokke Hippique Awards!

Knokke-Hippique is a 5-star event, which means as much as the highest level of world sport, the Champions League for horses. The participants of the competition are equally famous with family names such Jobs, Gates and Bloomberg entering this year’s edition.

The Knokke Hippique Awards

The first part of this event took place from 6 to 9 July. The next event which is called “The Summer Circuit” takes place from 12 to 23 July.

The making of.

The 3D trophy factory team is now in it’s 3rd year as exclusive award partner for Knokke Hippique. The award itself is inspired by a classic sea-side and beach theme, in true style of our Belgian Coast. The 2 main colors blue and white are in line with the event’s house style, resulting in a simple yet elegant design.

The trophies in detail

Also this year, we’ve created multiple designs for the entire course of the event. For the Knokke Hippique Jumping previous weekend, we’ve made the awards with a 3D printed lighthouse on top. The foot is oak and hand finished with white paint in our design studio.

The making of – the 3D printed light houses

For the Summer’s Circuit we have a variety of different sizes, with a 3D printed beach chair as the centre piece. The foot is also in oak and hand painted by our talented team.

To accommodate all those international top-class horses and riders, there is an area of over 30 hectares with two huge competition fields in Knokke , where competitions will take place during the day and in the evening. Next to the event there will also be lifestyle shows, live performances and restaurants present.

Pigeon racing is breaking price records. But how about the trophies?

Earlier this year, The Belgian race pigeon “Golden Prince” from Wevelgem has fetched 360,000 euros at an online auction. Auction house Pipa claims that this makes Golden Prince the most expensive pigeon ever. The winning bid is from South Africa.

clicque_foto_golden_prince

Belgium enjoys a long-time tradition in the breeding of racing pigeons. Buyers often come from abroad, from countries like China.

Pigeon racing is the sport of releasing specially trained racing pigeons, which then return to their homes over a carefully measured distance. The time it takes the animal to cover the specified distance is measured and the bird’s rate of travel is calculated and compared with all of the other pigeons in the race to determine which animal returned at the highest speed.

Most of the time the trophies are classic, meaning heavy decorated and gold or silver plated. But since the sport is clearly entering a new era – new investors, new tracking technology – we believe a change is needed. Our designers made these clean and simplistic (3D printed) trophies, fit for pigeon racing in the 21st century. What do you think?

Revenge of the nerds: The 5 biggest prizes in gaming tournaments

The gaming industry has definitely gone trough some major changes over the last few years, with competitive gaming reaching new heights of popularity.  After we made the insane looking award for King of the Kill a few weeks ago, we started to get curious.. It seems that competitive gaming has been taken out of the player’s living room and placed into the world’s biggest venues. Thousands of spectators are watching these games live, and we’re not even mentioning the ones that view these tournaments on live streams.
thumb_img_1294_1024Competitive gaming or e-sports are a million dollar industry with an extremely loyal community of gaming enthusiasts and fans. More than 20 years after the first video game tournaments, the top eSports events draw audiences that would make traditional sports events jealous. Companies like Coca cola, Nissan and Red bull are just some of the high-level sponsors that are part of this insane marketing machine. This results in prize money that trumps tournaments such as Tour de France or the Super bowl. If you want your kid to become the next top-earning athlete, then you might want to reconsider buying a PS4 of a PC instead of those of expensive private tennis lessons.

Design Inspiration – Scandinavian Design

header_scandinavian

In our series on on what inspires us, we take a look at Scandinavian design.

A minimalist, contemporary and elegant style that keeps clean lines but plays around with different textures and materials to give the design more depth and interest.

Scandinavian design is characterized by the use of cool and light colors, the implementation of geometric patterns and the combination of natural materials with new high-tech resources.

The geometric theme is not only very popular in interior design but also jewelers get inspired by this style. Traditional materials such as wood and precious metals are used to create modern and sleek designs. Triangles, oak and light pastel colors make for a contemporary and elegant look.jewelry

We love this style so much because it allows us to play around with the latest techniques and materials such as 3D printing which allows us to create intricate geometric designs. In combination with more traditional materials like wood our awards and trophies get a warm look and feel!scandinavian_inspirationThe Scandinavian design was the primary inspiration for our most popular award design, the 3D text totem. The 3D printed text and oak foot form an harmonious award that can be fully customized to refer to the winner who will receive it.deloitte-3d-text-totemIf you like our text totems and you are looking for a unique award, you can create these text totems yourself in our webshop. As you can see there are many possiblities within this design style and we hope you got inspired as well.

In which materials can you print 3D awards?

The designers at 3D Trophy Factory have many materials and production techniques to choose from when creating a design for a new award, trophy or business gift. One of the most used production techniques to bring our award designs to live is 3D printing.

There are many materials to choose from when it comes to 3D printing. Generally speaking the purpose of the printed product often dictates the print material but in the case of 3D printed awards and trophies almost anything goes!

The most commonly used materials are plastics and metals (which are actually first printed in wax and then cast in the right metal). The print material you choose, goes hand in hand with the production method used.

SLA vs SLS

The most commonly used production methods for 3D printing at this time are SLA and SLS.

Briefly, stereolithography (SLA) is a printing method where material is added in layers.

Laser sintering (SLS) is a printing method where the model is built up from a powder batch.

A list of the our most commonly used materials for 3D printing awards and trophies.

Polyamide (nylon)

Strong and flexible plastic. Made from powder.

We all know the classic trophies. The cups, big and shiny in gold, silver or bronze. The sports trophies, celebrating big victories. Of course there are more ceremonies on which you can receive a trophy. A singing contest for example. How about an award for most ugly dog of the year.

Companies can give a trophy to their best employee or a deal gift to their best clients. Actually, there can be a trophy for every occasion.

At 3D trophy factory we wish to achieve stylish designs, with a huge WOW factor. In the next images you can see an overview of the most diverse trophies, awards and deal gifts. Whether they are bold or beautiful is up to you, they sure have some kind of WOW factor to me! Here are some of them:
