Meet the star of the 3D Trophy Factory family

stima_3d_text_totem

Hi,

I am the 3D text totem! I am the all-time classic of the 3D trophy factory and was their first creation.

I am very popular as a give-away award for big international events and conferences.3d_text_totem_02

Why?

I am fully 3D, so people are really surprised when they get me ūüôā

I am fully customizable from top to bottom Рyour message appears in 3D and I can be engraved with logo’s on my base.3d_text_totem_01

I can be created with a 3D trophy factory configurator, in an amount from 1 to 5000.tedx_text_totem

I am small, so I fit in the suitcase of your speakers, attendees or members.
They will never forget me in their hotel room.

Curious? You can create me here or contact my father for special version.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Mark your partnerships with 3D tombstones

In November 2015, Buysse & Partners and Twikit joined forces to embark on a global 3D journey . Buysse & Partners is an investment firm with a global vision. Twikit is an enabler of online 3D customization.

With¬†the motto ‚ÄėWalk the talk‚Äô, the 3D Trophy Factory team created a unique deal gift¬†to mark the collaboration between Twikit and Buysse & Partners.

The space travel theme of the tombstone refers to the ambition of the partnership. Together with Buysse and Partners, we aim for the 3D customization sky and believe in infinite possibilities our collaboration will bring.dealgift2

To create a differentiating look for this unique 3D deal gift the custom elements were 3D printed and were combined with glass and a laser engraved oak foot.

Meanwhile this unique creation has found its place in the headquarters of Buysse&Partners.buysse_partners_collaboration

What is your journey? Do you have a special business occassion or deal you want to commemorate? Contact us for more information of a cool design! We look forward to hearing from you!

Diversity Trophy VRT

For the fourth time in a row the Belgian public television VRT awarded their Diversiteitstrofee VRT. This award recognizes people and programs that approach diversity and colleagues in a creative and conscious way. Have a look at the winners here.

The original design idea for the award was a 2D design by graphic designer Gudrun Makelberge which 3D Trophy Factory translated in to a 3D printed trophy.

We made some initial sketches based on Gudrun’s design and in time all parties agreed on a final 3D rendering of the original idea.

The purple 3D prints are placed on an oak foot which has been laser engraved with playful designs to show the different categories. We kept the award very minimal, so the finer laser engravings on the oak foot jump out really nicely.

how_we_workWe start with a short briefing

Creativity starts with constraints. We need to know¬†precisely what you are looking for, what materials¬†you‚Äôre eyeballing, which elements you want to¬†feature, in which context the trophy will be given,…¬†Expect us to listen, ask questions and show plenty of examples at this stage.

Next stage is sketching

You’ll probably already see our designers doodle and sketch during the first meeting. You wouldn’t believe the amount of pencils and notebooks we go through in a month. But it’s crucial to have plenty of drafts and ideas to cover different takes and angles on the subject, and spark the creativity. It’s just as fun as it sounds. (And, yes, we take budget constraints into account as well).

Off to the machines! From pencil sketches we go to 3D models and rendered images on our computer screen. They almost look real (even though they are in fact 2D illusions). Here, we craft and shape and rethink every detail of the design to ultimately end up with precisely the trophy you wanted.

Happy with the design? Then let’s do some printing! Actually, it’s a bit more technical than that! The production files need to be prepared, printing techniques have to be selected and finishes have to be decided upon. But those skills are embedded in our DNA (and they’ve actually already played a part in the design stage too).

When we offer you the end product, we know you’re not the actual recipient of the trophy. You’re going to give it away to someone else. And that’s probably the real beauty of designing a trophy: there’s always a winner at the end of it!

Is 3D printing expensive?

We often get the question whether 3D printing is expensive. And as is so often the case, the answer is more complicated than just simply a yes or no.

Many variables and different scenarios apply. It depends on the materials that are used, the size of the object, number of copies you need and the printer you are planning to use. In many cases a post-production finish (polish, varnish…) is also needed and will need to be included in the overall cost.

In general, you could say that 3D printing small objects is cheap and 3D printing large objects is expensive. Prices go up exponentially as the object size increases.

The cost of 3D printing doesn‚Äôt have any correlation with the complexity of your product‚Äôs design but it has everything to do with the cost of the material and the amount of resource material that is used. Material prices can go from ‚ā¨50/kg (ABS powder plastics) upto ‚ā¨500/kg (titanium powder), depending on what you need.

And although precious metals are even more expensive, jewelry production is very suitable for 3D printing. It allows designers to quickly make one-off creations and customized designs without the need to create and recreate molds until the design is exactly how they want it.

3D printing is also an excellent manufacturing method when you are creating prototypes, limited editions or customized products whereas traditional manufacturing techniques (such as injection molding, rotational molding,…) make a lot more sense when you are thinking about mass production both with regards to scalability and costs.

However, as the 3D printing technologies advance, the competition increases and raw 3D printing materials become less expensive, the future is looking brighter and brighter for 3D printing. 3D printing will become cheaper and faster and we’ll see more and more products being manufactured by 3D printers.

The biggest advantage of 3D printing is the short time it takes to get from concept to actual product and the possibilities it offers for increasingly intricate designs.

Have a look at this very beautiful Kinematic Petals dress (commissioned by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) by Nervous System! Now just a beautiful prototype and very much still in an experimental phase but maybe one day in the future a 3D printed garment might hang in your closet!

In short, you might conclude that depending on the size of your object, the chosen material and number of copies you need, 3D printing is definitely the way to go!

Especially if you are considering giving your customers the option to customize your products themselves or if you are thinking of limited editions and unique pieces.

If you are looking to mass produce products, it’s probably not the best option yet.

Whatever the case may be, 3D printing is definitely worth considering for your special projects.
The design possibilities and applications are endless!
