The very first “Belgian Big Screen Award”, an annual price for the most popular movie in Belgian theatres, was awarded this week by the Flemish prime minister Kris Peeters to the computer animated movie “Finding Dory” from The Walt Disney Company.
Finding Dory is a 2016 American 3D computer-animated comedy-drama adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Finding Dory focuses on the fish Dory, who journeys to be reunited with her parents.
Prime Minister Kris Peeters, Minister of work, economy, consumer business and foreign trade adds : “The audiovisual sector provides about 5000 jobs in Belgium alone, not to forget that this is and will also stay a growing industry. Between 2008 and 2014 the amount of companies in the audiovisual industry in Flanders increased with a staggering 50%. This has everything to do with the many creative and entrepreneurial talents in our country, that follow their passion. The federal government remains to support this important industry with the Tax Shelter, that provides an amount of 55 million euros to be used for movie productions. “
Serge Van Eyck, Deputy manager The Walt Disney Company : “Our Belgian team has about 50 very motivated employees, that make sure that the Belgian audience, big and small, can see Disney movies in Belgian theaters. Therefore this Belgian Big Screen Award for Finding Dory is a great recognition for my colleagues and myself. “
At an exclusive gala dinner, visit.brussels presented 37 Ambassador awards to the partners who, over the past three years, have contributed exponentially to propagating and supporting Brussels as an international MICE destination.
MICE is an acronym for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, in which large groups, usually planned well in advance, are brought together for a particular purpose. MICE tourism is also referred to as the “meetings industry”
In front of an audience of academics, doctors, European Commissioners, deans of universities, chairmen and board members of international associations based in Brussels, scientists, hospital directors and other destination partners, the 37 new ambassadors were praised for their efforts and help in bringing major international events to Brussels and reinforcing its image as ideal MICE destination.
130 people participated in this first edition of the Brussels Ambassadors Night. visit.brussels will use this event to launch a new network that can be activated to allow new international events to take place in Brussels. This will enhance the Belgian capital’s international appeal and promote its local expertise and strengths.
For many years, the Brussels-Capital Region has successfully concentrated on drawing international events. With its 657 gatherings in 2016, for example, it ranks as Europe’s number one convention destination, and second worldwide.
A few months ago we received a very unusual request: “Could you please make us an award in the shape of Trump-hair that is wobbling around on a moving spiral?”
I’m guessing that at this point everybody must have heard about Donald Trump. Without getting too political, let’s just say he’s famous because he’s the president-elect of the united states. What else is he famous for: his all natural(?) weaves; canary-blond and full of secrets. It’s safe to say that our design team was pretty exited when we read the e-mail.
This was definitely one of the most fun challenges for the team. After some sketching and research we finally had our model ready. Then there awaited us another challenge: finding the spiral that would fit the 3D printed hair without moving too much so the award would break or bend over.
When we finally puzzled everything together and we were super proud of the result! What do you think?
We’ve made the award for Belgian TV show M/V van het jaar (translation: Man/Woman of the year). This quiz featured Belgium’s biggest names in entertainment and television. The winner was Belgian director and presenter Erik Van Looy. Well done and good luck with your fabulous award!
In our series on on what inspires us, we take a look at Scandinavian design.
A minimalist, contemporary and elegant style that keeps clean lines but plays around with different textures and materials to give the design more depth and interest.
Scandinavian design is characterized by the use of cool and light colors, the implementation of geometric patterns and the combination of natural materials with new high-tech resources.
The geometric theme is not only very popular in interior design but also jewelers get inspired by this style. Traditional materials such as wood and precious metals are used to create modern and sleek designs. Triangles, oak and light pastel colors make for a contemporary and elegant look.
We love this style so much because it allows us to play around with the latest techniques and materials such as 3D printing which allows us to create intricate geometric designs. In combination with more traditional materials like wood our awards and trophies get a warm look and feel! The Scandinavian design was the primary inspiration for our most popular award design, the 3D text totem. The 3D printed text and oak foot form an harmonious award that can be fully customized to refer to the winner who will receive it.If you like our text totems and you are looking for a unique award, you can create these text totems yourself in our webshop. Greatist is company committed to helping you find the best way to a healthy and happy life.
For their offices they wanted a totem that represented their positive spirit and outlook on life and that would serve as a reminder to everyone to hold on to that healthy attitude and have fun while doing so.
The 3D Factory Designers created a totem that was based on the Greatist’s 5 icons. A Thumbs Up, a leaf, a doughnut, a cattle bell and an avocado. From the input above our designers created a really cool and whimsical totem that incorporated all elements.
The final result is a 3D printed totem that was spray painted gold (for that glamorous look) and is perched on an oak foot that was laser engraved with the Greatist logo.
This was a really fun collaboration and it looks like friends at Greatist are really happy with their new company totem as well.

To celebrate the opening of their new Antwerp plant, Q8 Oils wanted to offer their guests a commemorative gift.
The brief was simple, the design had to be based on the Q8 logo and the actual logo had to be freestanding from the rest of the design. After the approval of one of the design sketches, we created a 3D rendering for a better idea of what the final gifts would look like.
The design process
In the end the client decided on two different executions of the same design. The first design has a black acrylic background covered with a laser engraved metal foil and the 3D printed logo mounted on the front. The second design was executed in a laser cut and laser engraved transparent acrylic.
The final results
In total 270 guest received one of these beautiful gifts to remember the Q8 plant opening.
