Konami is one of the most well known and well respected video game developers worldwide. The multinational contacted us earlier this year for a project of a size we’ve never seen for before.
The company needed our help for an award that celebrated the winner of the PES league. For all you non-gamers out there: PES is an abbreviation for the critically acclaimed Pro Evolution Soccer.
The football video game is now in its 16th installment and continues to draw legions of devoted fans. For those seeking an even greater challenge Konami organizes the PES League World Finals, held this year in Cardiff. The best players in each country go through to a regional final in Barcelona or Liverpool. The winners there go on to the final and on June 4th only one can be crowned World PES Champion. Not coincidently, the final is played in the same weekend as the Champion’s league final.
The team made a 75 CM by 20 CM award customized to Konami’s design, making it the world’s largest 3D printed award to date.
Rather than order directly through the website as many of 3D Trophy Factory’s customers do this required a bespoke approach by the team.
This time care had to be taken to design this special trophy so it would print perfectly the first time. The trophy was first 3D printed and then had to be post processed by hand. Support structures had to be removed and the trophy was then hand painted.
The 3D print itself is made from a light curing resin called a photopolymer. Stereolithography works through lasers moving through a vat of this resin hardening it one layer at a time. The award has a smooth finishing, with a transparent resin on top of the massive 3d printed trophy. The logo is also 3D printed and the stickers are attached manually. With an award of this size, manual labour is a defining factor to reach this level of finishing.
Hopefully yesterday’s winner has a enough shelve space to store away this giant. We surely wish him a well deserved congratulations and hopes he enjoys his one-of-a-kind design!
For the 5th year in a row, the VRT (the Flemish state channel), presented the diversity trophies . Continue reading “The VRT awards diversity in Flemish Television and Radio.”
Last weekend The Noelanders Trophy 2017 took place in Genk, Belgium. This is a 3-day event that is all about the Ancient Japanese tradition of growing and cultivating bonsais.
The Japanese tradition dates back over a thousand years. The cultivation of Bonsais can be extremely difficult, and this competition awards those who have the best know-how to grow the most beautiful and unique-looking Bonsais.
The event was hold in the Limburghal in Genk with a staggering 4000M² competition floor and a 4000M² vender and professionals area. Live demo’s were held in the Auditorium that can welcome up to 650 guests.
All the activities were organized by the Bonsai Association Belgium for the 18th year in a row, and features a magnificent bonsai exhibition with the support of all their international bonsai friends.
The mission of the association is to raise the class and knowledge of the bonsai in Belgium and beyond the borders of our country. Under the mastery of Marc Noelanders, the event offers a network of contacts and knowledge at an international level.
3D trophy factory had the exclusive honor to design and produce these beautiful and natured inspired trophies.
With over 100 Bonsai trees on display, selecting the winners was a tough job for the judges. Go to this website to see the winning trees of the Noelanders Trophy 2016.
A few months ago we received a very unusual request: “Could you please make us an award in the shape of Trump-hair that is wobbling around on a moving spiral?”
I’m guessing that at this point everybody must have heard about Donald Trump. Without getting too political, let’s just say he’s famous because he’s the president-elect of the united states. What else is he famous for: his all natural(?) weaves; canary-blond and full of secrets. It’s safe to say that our design team was pretty exited when we read the e-mail.
This was definitely one of the most fun challenges for the team. After some sketching and research we finally had our model ready. Then there awaited us another challenge: finding the spiral that would fit the 3D printed hair without moving too much so the award would break or bend over.
When we finally puzzled everything together and we were super proud of the result! What do you think?
We’ve made the award for Belgian TV show M/V van het jaar (translation: Man/Woman of the year). This quiz featured Belgium’s biggest names in entertainment and television. The winner was Belgian director and presenter Erik Van Looy. Well done and good luck with your fabulous award!
In our series on on what inspires us, we take a look at Scandinavian design.
A minimalist, contemporary and elegant style that keeps clean lines but plays around with different textures and materials to give the design more depth and interest.
Scandinavian design is characterized by the use of cool and light colors, the implementation of geometric patterns and the combination of natural materials with new high-tech resources.
The geometric theme is not only very popular in interior design but also jewelers get inspired by this style. Traditional materials such as wood and precious metals are used to create modern and sleek designs. Triangles, oak and light pastel colors make for a contemporary and elegant look.
We love this style so much because it allows us to play around with the latest techniques and materials such as 3D printing which allows us to create intricate geometric designs. In combination with more traditional materials like wood our awards and trophies get a warm look and feel! The Scandinavian design was the primary inspiration for our most popular award design, the 3D text totem. The 3D printed text and oak foot form an harmonious award that can be fully customized to refer to the winner who will receive it.If you like our text totems and you are looking for a unique award, you can create these text totems yourself in our webshop. As you can see there are many possiblities within this design style and we hope you got inspired as well.

Greatist is company committed to helping you find the best way to a healthy and happy life.
For their offices they wanted a totem that represented their positive spirit and outlook on life and that would serve as a reminder to everyone to hold on to that healthy attitude and have fun while doing so.
The 3D Factory Designers created a totem that was based on the Greatist’s 5 icons. A Thumbs Up, a leaf, a doughnut, a cattle bell and an avocado. From the input above our designers created a really cool and whimsical totem that incorporated all elements.
The final result is a 3D printed totem that was spray painted gold (for that glamorous look) and is perched on an oak foot that was laser engraved with the Greatist logo.
This was a really fun collaboration and it looks like friends at Greatist are really happy with their new company totem as well.
